TRAINING FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS PRACTITIONERS

Persuasive Communication is designed to help participants to harness interpersonal skills in attempting to influence and persuade others. In order for us to experience greater success in interpersonal relationships we need to be proactive in establishing rapport with an individual or a group. To be more persuasive and influential in any situation, we need to use all of our communication skills including our visual, vocal and verbal skills to help us achieve greater success. Through active listening, observation and involvement we become more alert and able to participate well in conversations. This will make us more persuasive and influential when dealing with people at all levels.

Contents
It will be a highly interactive course with group discussions, personal evaluation, practice sessions and a personal action plan.

The course will cover:

  • Defining Persuasion

  • How persuasive skills contribute to personal success

  • How to enhance our visual communication ie, facial expression, mannerism

  • Vocal qualities when speaking ie volume, tone and speed in conversations

  • Verbal elements e.g. choice of words emphasizing the use of positive words

  • Self-analysis - Questionnaire on persuasive skills

  • Applying different conversation styles in given situations

  • How to start a conversation. How to maintain a conversation.

  • How to end on a positive note.

  • Personal action plan


About the Trainer


James Suresh is a multi-talented trainer and author. He has over 15 years of experience in training and counselling. The co-creator of Singapore’s comic icon ‘Mr. Kiasu’, James has co- written a series of comic books as well as authored books on his military experience. He develops creative concepts and writes scripts for various media. James has been featured on news radio in the ‘Positive Business Minutes’ series. He was engaged by Mediacorp to train the finalists of the Singapore Idol TV show in dealing with stress and performance anxiety. His recent book collaboration with STB entitled ‘On a Street in Singapore’ was listed in the Sunday Times’ best seller list and has been shortlisted for the Reader’s choice awards. He was also commissioned to produce an illustrated book for SG50. James graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration and Masters in Communication Management. He has conducted seminars and workshops in Singapore and the Asian region. James also lectures on Public Relations for Curtin University and the Inst of Public Relations Singapore. After a 15 year career in the SAF, 5 years in writing and publishing, James has spent the last 15 years in training and consulting. He has developed training workshops on interpersonal skills for teachers at the Ministry of Education. James specialises in creative thinking, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. With his many years of counselling and teaching at the SAF Boys School managing boys with personal and family problems, he is in an ideal position to share life lessons and create scenarios based on real life experiences. As a youth leader and mentor at a local church he is able to impart lessons to inspire and motivate others to overcome negative emotions, become aware of their own emotions as well as to be sensitive to the emotions of others. His life lessons will inspire participants and help them to build self confidence in dealing with emotional challenges.
